Outreach and community service

Dr Kritsiligkou is committed to engaging with the public and promoting awareness on important scientific issues. Her outreach efforts are designed to inform and inspire individuals to engage with scientific principles and to make a positive impact on the world around them.

She believes that it is also crucial to raise awareness with regards to responsible practices in our scientific community, from promoting sustainability to enhancing inclusion, diversity, and intersectionality.

She is passionate and proud to support early career researchers and provide them with the necessary tools and resources to achieve their goals.

As the lab grows, Dr Kritsiligkou looks forward to setting up more outreach and community activities programmes with the lab members.

Public engagement

Through community open days at the University of Manchester or at the Manchester museum, I was lucky to engage with the public and discuss with them elements of our research.

My favourite day was the one where we made cell cookies and we discussed the different organelles! Yey for intracellular heterogeneity!

Raising awareness

There are often many issues that are worth raising awareness about in academia. From data mishandling and lack of integrity, to greener, more sustainable labs, our everyday life as researchers needs to be constantly improving to support our community.

In 2019 I joined the eLife community ambassadors programme to raise awareness on such issues and it was a unique experience for me.

Supporting Early Career Researchers

As an early career researcher, I felt that the networks to support and promote Early Career Researchers (ECRs) could be improved. In 2022 the Society of Free Radical Research Europe created the ECR committee, and I was one of the founding members,

Since then we have established the "Emerging Leaders" webinar series, set up two mentoring programmes, and organised networking events and activities for ECRs at the annual meetings.

I had the pleasure to serve as chair and co-chair of this committee and I still enjoy every minute and meeting with my fellow committee members across Europe.
